Instructions for First Time Visitors

Please read through these instructions. You'll find important information here that will maximize your experience using our site.

On this page you will find the following:

1. THE PURPOSE OF THIS WEBSITE

This site was created to connect and re-connect with our classmates (even those who have not or will not be attending reunions). Our next goal is to make this site a scrapbook of memories for all classmates and their families. Our site is private!

Everything you need to know about setting up a profile to gain access to the rest of our site pages is on this page. If you have questions, please contact Ron Sorensen by using the "Contact Us" menu item.

2. PRIVACY NOTICE

All contact information (address, phone number, e-mail address) that you enter into this website is kept confidential. The host of this web site, ClassCreator.com, understand and respect the importance of your privacy. Your personal information will never be sold to other sites. It will not be shared or distributed.

Your contact information is private; your street address, e-mail address, and phone number cannot be seen by classmates. Additiohnally, each classmate has the ability to limit the visibility of his or her profile to only fellow classmates by clicking the "Profile Visibility" check box during profile setup. If you do not check teh "Profile Visibility" check box to opt for privacy your profile can be viewed by non members such as your friends or family, but also note your profile will be fully indexable by major search engines. Personally I recommend you opt for privacy (check this "Profile Visibility" box) at least initially until you're familiar with the site and it how it works.

Please note the contact info you enter on the site registration and maintain in your online profile is now the ONLY source of contact info we have for you. This online contact information is a replacement for the Master Database we have used and maintained for many years and our e-mail distribution lists. You are now able to maintain/update your own individual contact information. Please enter ALL your contact info e.g. primary e-mail address, secondary e-mail addresses, mailing address, Phone numbers, etc

Finding your class web site Profile pages by searching Google or other major search engines:

  • If you are signed on to the site and restricted your profile to only fellow classmates, and then use a search engine to see if the privacy options above are working, it will appear they are NOT. This is only because you are signed into the site. Sign out and check again. You will see that none of your profile information is viewable by non members.

Emails may be shared within this site using the contact option at the top of each classmate's profile page (just look under the classmate's main photo in the upper left). This way you will be able to contact classmates without sharing your private email address, unless you choose to do so by including such info in the actual body of the e-mail.

All class Email news sent from us to you via this web site: For those of you with spam blocking or email filtering capabilities, please add noreply@classcreator.net and admin@burnabysouthrebels.com to your email account as a safe sender or enter both against a contact in your contacts list. e.g. Add Burnaby South Rebels as a cotact and add these 2 emails against that contact in order to ensure you receive email communications from us.

In respecting your privacy and the privacy of other classmates please do not repost information, pictures etc from this site on other sites e.g. facebook, linkedin, etc. Members that share pictures etc here expect to share with classmates registered under the rules that govern our site. If a classmate wishes their picture, etc posted on other sites they will do so on their own.

3. REGISTERING/SETTING UP YOUR PROFILE

In order to access the private pages that are password protected on this site, you must set up a profile by providing your full contact information. e.g your email address(s), postal address, phone Number(s) etc and a password.

To set up your profile:

First:

You must add a contact to your computer's address/contacts application. Add this new contact with the Name " Burnaby South Rebels" and enter the followoing 2 email addresses for this contact;

email 1: admin@burnabysouthrebels.com

email 2: noreply@burnabysouthrebels.com

Adding these emails enables emails and notices I as the site admin send or have the site auto send be accepted by your system and not be considered JUNK or SPAM.

Second:

Please visit our web site at www.burnabysouthrebels.com

If you’re a classmate click the "JOIN HERE" link in the gray box in the upper right corner, locate the "Classmate Profiles" link and locate your name and click on it. Follow the prompts to create your profile. If you have been invited to join as a guest, scroll down to the guests and click on your name then follow the directions to register/join.

That's it.

Once you join you should soon after receive a welcome email message. However, please read on as the following information being provided as further assistance in completing the registration.

Please complete ALL contact info as this info will be the source of our contact info and replaces our Master Database. DO NOT delete or leave these fields blank as this will trigger you to be a “MISSING CLASSMATE”!

Private information like your email address, home address, and phone numbers will not be visible to fellow classmates. We collect this contact information for use in the event emailing you is not working and we need to contact you by snail mail or phone. Your information is not visable or shared with anyone not even other classmates.

Passwords:

If you and your spouse/partner are both Burnaby South classmates, no matter what years you attended, and using the same e-mail;

If this is your case you must ensure that each you must register separately and must register using DIFFERENT Passwords. The system uses your email address and password to know which classmate you are. If you were to both use the same e-mail and password the system would not know which classmate is on the system and against which one of you to record your information.

Choosing a password:

Passwords do not need to be the high security style recommended for some sites. Choose something simple that you are certain you will remember. Clicking the "Remember Me" will allow you to bypass entering the password each time you visit, but eventually the "remember me" will fail (for instance when you get a new computer). Please make note of your password!

If you forget your password simply click on "forgot password". If you have several email accounts, and you don't remember the one you used to set-up your account, contact Ron Sorensen. This could take a while so please be patient.

A couple of things to note:

  1. e-mail: Ensure you enter your e-mail address(s) in all lower case.
  2. Postal code: Please enter the alphabetic characters as capitals. e.g. V4A 3C6
  3. Phone numbers - For consistency please enter your phone number(s) in this format;  NNN-NNN-NNNN e.g 604-123-4567 Please ensure you insert the dashes as shown

CAUTIONS:

When completing your profile/registration the following questions and check boxes are for Administrator use only. Please DO NOT check these boxes;

  • Communicates using snail mail only;
  • Does NOT wish to be Contacted.
  • Communications filtered via Surrogate person

Profile Visibility: I suggest you check the box for Profile Visibility: Checking this box will block the public and search engines from accessing your profile and allow only fellow classmates and teachers to view your profile.

If you go into the "Notify Me” section of our Profile and change the default settings Please do not change the selection against "An administrator sends an email to all Classmates (strongly recommended)” as changing to “never" will result in me as the site administrator not being able to email you.

Photo's

We encourage you to add a current picture to your profile as a master photo. This photo will be displayed in various areas around the site. It's also helpful to upload an additional "Now" photo, and a "Then" photo. Classmates will enjoy seeing how you've changed!

If your name is not already on the site, but you were part of the Burnaby South Rebels Classes of 1923 - 1992, contact us and your name will be added.

Contact Info Updates:

If you change your email address, snail mail address, or phone number, please update your Contact Info ASAP by clicking on the Person Icon in the top right of the home page and then on the "Edit Contact Info". Please make corrections to your email address, postal address and Phone numbers as needed but DO NOT delete or leave these fields blank as this will trigger you to be a “MISSING CLASSMATE”!

We need your up to date contact info so if we gett bounces on your email we can contact you via other means and get this corrected.

Please let me know if you have any trouble with these directions. Any comments or suggestions that would make things easier to understand would be welcomed.

Regards

Ron Sorensen

4. "MISSING" CLASSMATES

The wonderful part about this site is that we were able to preconfigure it to automatically assemble and maintain a missing list for us, based solely on the names of people who don't have specific profile information; so until you have a profile with e-mail, Address and Phone informtion entered the site will consider you "missing".

Also, please note: We need your help to contact EVERY classmate. If after the registration invites have gone out (Oct 2017) and a considerable amount of time has passed to facilitate the registration process and you have information about any classmate, listed or not listed, please contact us using the "Contact Us" menu tab.

5. COMMUNICATING WITH CLASSMATES

To contact a fellow classmate, you may simply use the email option at the top left of each Classmate's Profile page (located under Master Photo). This feature will allow open communication between Classmates, while protecting your personal information. If you wish to share your email address or other personal information within a message written on our site, the site will not block you from doing so.

6. ADDING PICTURES TO YOUR PROFILE

Adding current pictures is not a requirement to participate on the site, but it certainly is a nice way to get to know people again. We've had reports of classmates who were routinely running into each other without knowing it, because...well....we've all changed a little over the years! :)

Filling in the photo slots at the top of your Profile:

  • Click "Edit Profile" under MEMBER FUNCTIONS.
  • Roll your cursor over the Master Photo, Then, Now, or Yearbook photo silhouette (note you cannot upload a yearbook photo if one has already been provided)
  • Click "Select Photo" displayed in the upper right corner of photo, then click the "Upload a New Photo" button.
  • Select the desired photo from your hard drive. You will then be given an opportunity to crop the photo for a perfect fit.

Adding large "Profile Gallery Images" to your Profile:

  • Clicked "Edit Profile" under MEMBER FUNCTIONS.
  • Click the photo tab in the upper right corner of your Profile.
  • You will see any images previously uploaded here. Click the "Upload a New Photo" button to add more.
  • Click to select images you wish to display on your Profile. All images with a green check mark will display. Click again to not display, and the green check mark will disappear.
  • To add a caption under your images, roll over any image and select "Edit Details". Enter your caption and press save.
  • You can adjust the display order of your photos by simply dragging and dropping them into the positions of your choosing.
